Serum can do everything Sylenth1 can and more. Strictly speaking it’s not the best sounding of all modern softsynts, but it’s very easy to place in the mix for some reason.

For electronic music it’s pretty much a must-have. It’s still a good synth, but depending on what genre ofcourse.

Sylenth1 by LennarDigital – Plugins (VST, AU) | Splice. No matter how many modulation sources a synth has, they are useless they can be bound to a variety of parameters. Massive has all of the modulation sources that Sylenth has plus the option to change any of it’s 4 LFOs into step sequencers or performers. Yes, Sylenth1 is great for creating all kinds of basic sounds, but in contrast to Serum you actually can’t do that much with it. The overall functionality is probably the biggest difference between both synths.
